And they'll take it from whoever offers the golden platter. And the longer we resist going that way, the lesser our chances of making a difference in the long run. Wouldn't you like it if your Linux software was as easy to install as the average Windows desktop app? Why must Linux's crumminess be a reason to hate Windows? > Thats somethin thats doin the rounds for a long time, but nothin seems to have

That's the point. Works perfectly. 2 digit dates worked perfectly for half a century. Did that make them good? > comes to my mind is that , the only reason that we have so many distros of

FreeBSD is open source too. Why don't you see multiple distros of FreeBSD? Why are there only Free, Open and Net BSD? Linux's model is not just open source, it's the "release early and involve everyone" system. Lose sight of /that/ and you're in trouble. And multiple distros can only mean fewer people for each distro. It's acceptible now with them mostly being the same, but don't expect it to last. SuSE's RPMs are already incompatible with Red Hat's distro, even though they use the same packaging system. > "Killing the innovation" is Microsofts motto.
Nope. It's discovering innovations and hijacking them. If you want a good idea of where computing is headed in the years to come, watch Microsoft very carefully. Don't depend upon their /products/ but trust them to know what they're doing. It'll take you a long way. -- Kiran Jonnalagadda http://lunateks.com baby.sh: while true; do echo "^G^G^G^G^G"; sed -e 's/food/poop/'; sync; sync; sleep 15; done
