My name is Jonnalagadda Chandra Kiran. In an earlier era, I abbreviated that as “J. C. Kiran” and the “J. C.” became Jace, a nick that has since taken prominence over my real name.

I get involved in more things than I can do justice to, with my various identities struggling for occasional bursts of dominance. Among them:

• Information architect. There’s beauty in the design of information structures, whether these be community spaces or databases, for human or machine consumption.

• Corporate drone. Much as I like being a free agent, sometimes it takes a team—a well coordinated, focused team, where individual stardom is sacrificed for the team’s greater glory.

• Photographer. Some experiences are best described without words. The best pictures are emotional, lifting the viewer into a reverie that would otherwise have been the photographer’s alone.

• Traveller. I like places that have arrived at modernity tugging their past along, unwilling to let go of what was once uniquely theirs.

• Occasional writer. I get to see my name in a print publication once or twice a year. Writing for print is unsettling since the audience is always unfamiliar, and yet, the reward is in getting feedback from other than the usual suspects.

• Blogger. Over half a decade and still surprised people care what I did today. Wrote for myself, whined that the world did not care, found joy in the initial community, discovered with shock that an upcoming generation was looking up to my whining, resolved to write responsibly.

• Open source and open standards evangelist. There are various kinds of freedom, of varying degrees of importance depending on context. Where I come from, these two are pretty high up.

I’m a student of economics (self taught) and culture (some professional aid). In an attempt to better understand the economic structures of this country, I now work with an organisation that specialises in rural information services delivery.
